Confirmation Requirements

Pre-Confirmation & Confirmation Prep Requirements as of September 2024
- Due to the Archdiocese of Boston’s April, 2024 decree to change the age for the Sacrament of Confirmation to around 13 or 14 (8^th grade) by May of 2027, there will be some shifting of classes over the next few years. More information about the change can be found HERE for Confirmation Resources. The Confirmation class groupings are as follows:
- 2024-25 2025-26 2026-27 2027-28 2028-29
- Gr 7, 8, 9, 10* Gr 7, 8*, 9*, 10* Gr 7 & 8* Gr 7 & 8* Gr 7 & 8*
  * Grades are color-coded to try to make it easier to follow them over the years.
  * Starred (*) grades are receiving Confirmation the following Fall of that year.
  
  As of September 2024, incoming Grades, 7, 8, 9 will begin Confirmation 1 prepraration.*
  - Incoming Grade 10 students will begin Confirmation 2 (after having completed Confirmation 1 in the previous year).
  - We request, starting in the Fall of 2025, in order to move on to Confirmation preparation, you have attended at least 1 year of Faith Formation within 2 years prior to starting Confirmation in order to have a better understanding of your Catholic faith. This means to having at least attended Faith Formation in grade 5 &/or 6. Please contact Marianne Cooper at [email protected] or 978-772-0727 if you have any questions or concerns.
  - There is a Confirmation Retreat scheduled on a Saturday September 21, 2024, from 10am-5pm at St. Anthony’s Derosier Hall in Shirley. This is for all 7th grade through Confirmation 3 candidates. A Pizza Lunch is included. All students are invited to attend 4pm Mass as part of the retreat. There will be a brief Confirmation rehearsal for all Confirmation 3 candidates after the 4pm Mass.
  - Confirmation 1 and Confirmation 2 students: Community service has always been highlighted as an important part of our faith. To address this, Works of Mercy (Community Service) is strongly encouraged. These hours can also be counted for school requirements. There are many opportunities within the church and community. (See the Faith Formation 2024-25 Calendar.) Working on a charity project is also strongly encouraged and supported during this time-frame.   - **** All Confirmation students must complete and turn in the CONFIRMATION REGISTRATION and CONFIRMATION COMMITMENT FORM in the first month of classes. which are available on this page under "Confirmation Forms".

  - All Confirmation 3 candidates (those who have completed Confirmation prep and will be receiving Confirmation in the Fall), please find further instructions on what to do in the couple of months prior to your Confirmation on this page under Confirmation Forms called "CONFIRMATION 3 "THINGS TO-DO" LIST".
